I know I’ve already posted about this once, but I thought it deserves a handy-dandy graphic in refreshing mint green.

No Smoking

Wednesday marked four weeks since my last cigarette. Cold-turkey, laying them down and willing myself not to have another one. Obviously I feel better, but I hadn’t expected to find the extra $4/day so handy when I wanted to buy things. It adds up so quickly.

It’s funny to me how much dogs and owners take on one another’s characteristics. Winston refuses to wake up most mornings now, opting instead to lounge in the bed surrounded by mountains of pillows. I love that he stares at me with groggy half-lidded eyes until I leave the bedroom and go on about my morning so that he can go back to sleep. I try to avoid taking a self-righteousness savior-stance, but I wonder sometimes what Winston’s days were like when he was a stray. Nowadays he won’t eat cheap food and won’t poo without a treat. He won’t sit on the concrete floor (rugs or pillows only) and has to sleep in the bed. He sometimes reminds me that life has a way of turning around and that bad is rarely bad forever.

This time of year makes me nostalgic for school-time. Something about buying new pencils makes me happy. And waking around campuses on crisp fall evenings. And learning things. The best part about fall and walking and learning? Wearing layers. I love sweaters. And scarves!
