Identity theft in progress.

This letter from Administaff (the company that handles our HR at the office) was in my mailbox when I got home from work:
Dear David Hill,
On October 3, 2007, an Administaff laptop computer containing personal information about certain current and former Administaff worksite employees was reported missing. We are writing to notify you that the information stored on the laptop includes your name, address and Social Security number.
We sincerely regret this incident. We take the protection of personal information extremely seriously. As of the date of this letter, our investigation strongly indicates that this was a random event and that the personal information was not specifically targeted…The laptop computer is password protected; however, the personal information was not saved in an encrypted location, which is a clear violation of company policies. Blah, blah, identity theft, blah, blah, free credit report, blah, blah.
Great.
